Abstract

The co-occurrence of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and borderline personality traits presents a complex clinical picture characterized by mood instability, emotional dysregulation, and interpersonal difficulties. This case-based research study explores therapeutic strategies for effectively managing these co-occurring conditions through a  multimodal intervention approach. Cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques, including behavioral activation and cognitive restructuring, werecombined with positive psychology interventions such as strengths identification, gratitude exercises, hope-building, and self-compassion practices. Additionally, psychoeducation and family involvement were emphasized to enhance social support and improve communication dynamics. The therapeutic process demonstrated gradual improvement in mood stability, interpersonal functioning, and self-efficacy. The integration of positive psychology approaches alongside traditional psychotherapy emerged as a valuable framework for promoting resilience and long-term emotional well-being in patients with MDD and borderline personality traits. These findings support the need for comprehensive, strength-based therapeutic models tailored to the unique vulnerabilitiesand capacities of this population.
