Abstract

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of patellofemoral pain (PFP) in young adults with quadriceps tightness. An observational study was conducted with 160 participants aged 16-35 in Sargodha, Pakistan. PFP was diagnosed through clinical examination during functional activities. Data were collected using the Pain Numerical Scale and a questionnaire on medical history and lifestyle, analyzed via SPSS 26. The sample had a near-equal gender distribution (51.9%men, 48.1% women), with the highest prevalence of PFP in participants aged 23-24. 33.8% reported left knee pain, 36.9% right knee pain, and 29.4% pain in both knees. 37.5% had pain for over three months. Activities like jogging and stair climbing were associated with increased pain, and 70% reported moderate pain, while 26.3% had no pain. The study underscores the need for personalized treatments to address PFP, highlighting the importance of targeting specific activities and risk factors to improve patient outcomes. Further research is needed to explore PFP causes and develop effective interventions.
