Abstract
Correctional facilities frequently accommodate individuals with diverse and complex mental health issues, including emotional instability. However, barriers such as stigma and limited awareness of available services often hinder access to necessary mental health care. This article examines the potential of integrating mental health literacy programs within correctional environments as a means to promote help-seeking behavior among inmates experiencing emotional challenges. Drawing on relevant literature and empirical studies, the paper presents actionable strategies to enhance mental health literacy among both prisoners and correctional staff, with the goal of improving early detection and intervention for mental health concerns in these settings.
