Abstract

Background Thalassemia is an autosomal recessive blood disease characterized by anemia that develops because of damaged synthesis of one or more of the hemoglobin chains. Thalassemia is one of the most prevalent genetic diseases in the world. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the Knowledge and Practices of Nurses about the Care of Thalassemia Major Patient at a Tertiary Care Hospital. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional research study design was used. Study used purposive sampling technique. Result: The study reported that the good knowledge was 55 (39.3 %), those with moderate knowledge were 50 (35.7 %) and those with poor knowledge were 35 (25.0%). The good practice was 80 (60.2%) and the participants with poor practice was 53 (39.8%). Conclusion: The study concluded that the majority of nurses having good Knowledge and good practices about the care of thalassemia major patient.
