Abstract
Background: Shoulder impingement syndrome is a common condition that occurs when the tendons or bursa in the shoulder become compressed or pinched during arm movements, particularly overhead activities. The shoulder is a complex joint with several structures, including the rotator cuff tendons and the subacromial bursa, which can get irritated or inflamed due to this pinching. This can lead to pain, reduced range of motion, and weakness in the shoulder. There are very few studies comparing the effectiveness of these therapies, though.
Objective: The study was conducted to determine the comparative effects PNF and Static Stretching on pain, range of motion, and functional outcomes in shoulder impingement syndrome. Methods: This was a randomized clinical trial study. Data was collected from Faisal Hospital, Move better and Abwa Clinics.38 participants were selected by using non-probability, purposive sampling technique. Participants was randomly allocated into two different groups. Randomization was done by lottery method. The baseline treatment was high frequency TENS of 150 Hz for 15 minutes. Group A received Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Technique along with baseline treatment and group B received Static stretching. PNF stretching was performed 3 sets of 5 repetitions 3-4 times per week. In Static stretching stretch every muscle group three times a week and the baseline treatment was given for 15 minutes for four weeks. Baseline treatment was same for both groups. The interventions were performed three times per week on alternate days for four weeks. Data was collected at the baseline and at fourth week. Outcomes measurement tools: The outcome metrics that was utilized in Shoulder Impingement Syndrome methodology was Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Goniometer for measuring range of motion and Shoulder Pain And Disability Index (SPADI). Data Analysis: The data was analysed by using SPSS version 23.Result:P value of between groups comparison of VAS is.001,SPADI is.000, Flexion is.000, Extension is .004, Internal rotation is.000 and External Rotation is.000. .Conclusion: Study concluded that PNF technique is more effective than Static Stretching in relieving pain, improving range of motion and functional outcomes in Shoulder Impingement Syndrome.
